Hiking is one of the Basque Country’s most popular activities, as it allows you to take in the region’s incredible variety of landscapes.
Discover spectacular itineraries and mythical trails:
- Climb La Rhune from the village of Ascain, with a charming descent on a cogwheel train!
- The coastal path from Bidart to Hendaye, with breathtaking scenery between cliffs and beaches.
- The Iraty forest, one of the largest beech forests in Europe, to explore on trails suitable for all levels.
- The Col d’Ibardin and its breathtaking views over the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz
You can also take short walks from the campsite, along the Adour river… There are marked trails in the surrounding area and in neighboring villages (L’Ardanavy river educational trail in Urcuit).
The GR8: the GR8 crosses the Atlantic coast via the village of URT. This trail runs from Lac d’Hourtin to the caves of Sare, where it can join the GR10 (linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean) or the Camino de Norte to Santiago de Compostela.The GR8 is part of the European Coastal Path E9, which links Estonia to Portugal, via the North Sea, the English Channel and the Atlantic to southern Portugal, a distance of 5,000 km.
But if you have less time to devote to walking, you can also discover day hikes, and/or family hikes. The campsite manager, a keen hiker and mountain enthusiast, will be happy to advise you, adapting to your level and wishes.
The Guiche leisure center
In the heart of the Basque Country, just a few kilometers from your campsite, the Guiche leisure park offers a multitude of activities for all ages.
On the lake, the WaterZone is a vast floating leisure area with slides, trampolines and inflatable obstacle courses. Enjoy supervised swimming or explore the surrounding area by canoe or kayak.
Fishing enthusiasts will also be delighted by the lake’s fish-filled waters . Shaded picnic areas are available on the banks to share a meal or snack al fresco.

Go rafting or canoeing
The inland Basque country is an ideal destination for white-water sports enthusiasts such as rafting and canoeing. The courses of the Nive and Bidouze rivers offer a variety of routes suitable for all levels. Experience the thrill of rafting down tumultuous rapids with experienced guides! For a more leisurely activity, opt for canoeing and explore the verdant landscapes at your own pace. You can rent canoes in La Bastide-Clairence (one of France’s most beautiful villages) for a peaceful outing. If you’re more the sporting type, you can try your hand at rafting on the River Nive, with numerous bases between Itxassou and Bidarray.
